Aedera was founded by Alison Carey and leverages her years of experience leading affordable housing preservation and other impact projects. Aedera combines her passion for real estate and drive to achieve operational excellence with her mission to contribute to thriving, equitable communities.

Meet The Founder

Alison Carey
Founder and Principal

Alison Carey is a mission-driven real estate professional with more than a decade of experience in operational strategy, urban planning, impact real estate and affordable housing policy, finance, acquisitions, and development. Alison is driven to create positive change through rigorous analytics, thoughtful strategy, exceptional project management, and empathetic relationship-building.

 

Most recently, Alison served as Vice President of Development and Capital Markets at SHIFT Capital, where she managed complex mixed-use, mixed-income acquisition and development projects that leveraged government subsidy programs. She led financing, property management, and design and construction teams through plan development, financing and subsidy approvals, transaction closing, and construction. Her work included joint venture partnerships with up-and-coming developers, as well as internal organizational growth strategy to implement operational processes and best practices.

 

Prior to joining SHIFT Capital, Alison worked at The Related Companies, where she managed affordable housing preservation projects, with a particular focus on properties subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credit and tax-exempt bond financings. Alison has experience with a range of HUD programs, including Section 8, Section 236, HOPE VI, and Rental Assistance Demonstration public housing conversion programs.

 

Alison's work has led to the acquisition, renovation, and preservation of over 1,400 affordable housing units across the country representing over $250 million of total development costs.
